Poetry Night was created by the Institute of the Arab World in 2016 to "summon, for one night, poetry and celebrate the beauty of the word in memory of the attacks in Paris in November 2015." Last year, the event was celebrated simultaneously in eight Arab cities: Doha, Jeddah, Fez, Khartoum, Riyadh, Tunis, Beirut and Algiers.
This year, we will celebrate Arabic, Spanish and French poetry that reminds us that culture builds bridges between people. Readers include Spanish-speaking students from the Translation and Interpreting Institute, poets from the French Institute of Qatar, and local Arabic poets. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Qatar Music Academy.
