Earthna, Center for a Sustainable Future, in collaboration with Qatar National Library, is delighted to host this first in a series of events on the terrestrial ecology of Qatar. The event will include:

- The launch of Hidden Beauty, a book by Dr. Renee Richer.

- A panel discussion on 'Conservation and Restorative Policies for the Terrestrial Ecology of Qatar and Other Hot Arid Lands.'

Panel Brief

There is currently a threat to much of Qatar’s unique ecological systems due to overgrazing, inappropriate recreational land uses, pollution, and habitat loss from agriculture, urban expansion, etc. Much of these adverse circumstances stem from a lack of appreciation of Qatar’s 'hidden beauty', its irreplaceable ecological assets and their global significance.

This underappreciation appears to be endemic. However, with careful restoration and conservation policies in place, much damage can be repaired. These policies, in turn, could lead to Qatar becoming a global exemplar of restorative sustainability and a centre for bio-safe tourism. This panel discussion will address these policy issues.
