Heritage for Peace: Guidelines for COVID-19

2021.4.6 16:00

Online via Microsoft Teams

The IFLA Preservation and Conservation regional center at the Library is hosting a webinar on heritage guidelines for COVID-19 in Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Libya, as developed by the organization Heritage for Peace. The heritage guidelines consist of three parts. In Part I, three different heritage sectors and how they were affected by the present pandemic will be discussed: archaeological sites, libraries and archives, and museums. In Part II, country overviews will be presented. As the context of each country differs, their specific societal, political, economic circumstances, health systems and humanitarian aid will be discussed, as well as how they changed the protection of the national heritage. In Part III, information on some basic digital tools and services will be presented. Due to lockdown closures and travel restrictions, one of the few ways left to communicate with people is through the internet and many varied social media applications. The approach is very practical and the guidelines list a wealth of resources.

In addition, a number of projects undertaken by Heritage for Peace to protect heritage in the region will be discussed.

Speaker: Isber Sabrine, chair and co-founder of the international NGO Heritage for Peace
