Join us for the third edition of the “Memory of Private Collections in Qatar” seminar series, celebrating the vital role individuals play in preserving family libraries—pillars of Qatar’s cultural heritage and a shared legacy for future generations.

This edition focuses on the Al Ansari Library, featuring rare manuscripts, books and documents that reflect the scientific and cultural renaissance experienced by the people of Qatar.

This series spotlights one of the country’s most notable private collections—the library of Sheikh Abdullah bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah bin Ali Al Ansari (1914–1989), a distinguished religious scholar and leading Islamic thinker in twentieth-century Qatar. He was among the founding members of Qatar’s first religious institute, established in 1954. He also held several official positions, including Director of the Department of Village Affairs, Director of Religious and Village Affairs, and Director of the Department of Islamic Heritage Revival.

Alongside his efforts in publishing the Hijri and Gregorian calendars and prayer times in Qatar, he was recognized as the first to continue and advance this work after his father. He became known for his remarkable precision in determining the calendars and was fondly referred to as the “Servant of Knowledge” in recognition of his deep devotion to learning and religious guidance.
