Rabindranath Tagore (d.1941) one of the most influential Bengali poets and the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. The literary and cultural world feels that Tagore’s influence can be felt more in these tumultuous times than in his own time and his relevance is not restricted to India but beyond. This lecture will focus on Tagore’s view on nationalism and how is it pertinent in the current age of hyper-nationalism and cultural chauvinism. In addition to the lecture, there will be a recitation of his soul touching poetry.
