Dust Storms from Mars and Titan to Qatar

2019.5.12 10:30

Auditorium

Dust storms are among the most fascinating natural phenomena occurring in deserts. Dust storms in North Africa and the Arabian peninsula can have environmental impacts that can extend as far as the west coast of the United States. Dust storms also happen on other celestial bodies, such as comets, Mars and the Saturn moon Titan.

In this forum, Dr. Nicholas Middleton, School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford, will explore these unique phenomena and try to understand their origin, evolution and how they have shaped the country's landscape and environment.

Associated books with the forum:

  1. Goudie, Andrew, Middleton, Nicholas J. Desert Dust in the Global System.
  2. Shao, Yaping. Physics and Modelling of Wind Erosion.
  3. Kenneth Pye, Haim Tsoar. Aeolian Sand and Sand Dunes.
  4. Danin, Avinoam. Plants of Desert Dunes.
