SUMMARY:The Himaya Project: Addressing Looting Through Digitization
DESCRIPTION:Within the framework of the Himaya Project to fight against the illicit trafficking of cultural property\, the IFLA PAC Regional Center at Qatar National Library invites you to this webinar which will address the importance of digitization in protecting cultural property and combating illicit trafficking\, as well common challenges in using digitization to protect cultural heritage.\nWe will also highlight the Turathi heritage digitization project in Algeria. This platform helps law enforcement to identify cultural goods at risk of trafficking\, and allows the public to learn more about heritage materialsfound in Algeria.\nSpeakers\nPeter Herdrich: is the co-founder of the US-based Antiquities Coalition\, where he directs strategic cultural heritage projects. He has worked for the last three years with the Ministry of Culture and Arts in Algeria on digital infrastructure projects\, including at libraries and museums.\nAbir Chorfa: currently serves as program manager for the Antiquities Coalition's projects in her native country of Algeria. During her work\, she has led and overseen the development and implementation of multiple solutions for safeguarding heritage and furthering international cooperation.\nHelena Arose: is the director of programs at the Antiquities Coalition.
