SUMMARY:Commemorating the Palestinian Nakba: Ongoing Displacement from 1948 to the Systematic Genocide in Gaza
DESCRIPTION:Since the Palestinian Nakba (disaster) of 1948\, global discussions about Palestine have continued\, reflecting various perspectives and opinions. Some might simplify the Nakba within a broader humanistic context termed "The Humanization Approach to the Palestinian Issue." \nThis seminar seeks to challenge this perspective\, emphasizing the ongoing displacement faced by Palestinians since the Nakba. Today's generations grapple with this reality\, compounded by forced displacements within occupied Palestine and the aftermath of the continuing war in Gaza. The seminar aims to reexamine the Nakba's aftermath as a foundational historical event and its role in understanding the Palestinian experience\, spotlighting the colonial lens through which it's often viewed.\n Speakers:\n\nDr. Amal Ghazal\, Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies\, will discuss: "Genocide in Gaza: The Palestinian Nakba and the Globalization of Disasters." Her talk contextualizes the seminar by highlighting the ongoing relevance of the Palestinian Nakba and its global significance\, alongside its local and regional dimensions. \n\n \n\nDr. Abaher El-Sakka\, Associate Professor at Birzeit University in Occupied Palestine\, will speak on the topic "The Nakba and its Continuity from 1948 to the Genocide in 2024". He will examine the social and historical interpretations of the Nakba. \n\n \n\nDr. Ismail Nashif\, Associate Professor at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies\, will present: "The Nakba and Palestinian Historical Narration." His talk focuses on Palestinians' narration of their history\, starting with the Balfour Declaration in 1917 and progressing through pivotal events to the ongoing Gaza genocide. \n\n \nThe seminar will be moderated by Ikhlas Ahmed\, Tours and Exhibition Officer at the QNL’s Heritage Library.\n \nDate: 15 May 2024 \nTime: 6:30 - 8:00 PM\nLanguage: Arabic and English \nTarget Audience: Researchers \nSeats are limited\, please click the button below to register.\n
