DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to invite you to join our new lecture series exploring the rich and multifaceted history of the Gulf region. In this inaugural session\, Maryam Al-Mutawa\, Head of Collection Access at the Heritage Library\, will introduce the central themes of the series. This will be followed by a lecture by Dr. Allen Fromherz\, Professor of Gulf History and Mediterranean History and Director of the Middle East Studies Center at Georgia State University\, which will focus on the historical significance of the Gulf as a center of global activity prior to the discovery of oil. The lecture will also shed light on the many unique aspects of Gulf culture\, trade and society over thousands of years.\nThe Arabian Gulf has a rich and layered history\, shaped by its strategic location at the crossroads of civilizations.
