DESCRIPTION:Qatar National Library - the IFLA Regional Center for the Preservation of Documentary Heritage in the Arab Region and the Middle East - invites you to this lecture to learn about the Syrian Design Archive Project.\nThe Syrian Design Archive is a non-profit\, documentary project to help archive graphic design elements and visuals including Arabic typography. It has evolved into a digital archive preserving the many forms of Syrian design (prints\, media\, street signs\, and stamps) and aims to create an open archive as a resource for researchers and students\, preserving Syrian design heritage in a time of rapid technological evolution.\nThe Syrian Design Archive has become a success in a short space of time\, allowing people to relive the past era through shapes and elements that influenced their lives and allowing new generations to experience the past.\nIt is a celebration of Syria's unique design heritage in an age of rapid technological evolution. The archive documents a range of printed and non-printed forms such as vintage shop signs\, movies\, stamps\, books\, flyers\, and more.\nSpeakers:Kinda Ghannoum: A multidisciplinary designer and a co-founder of the Syrian Design Archive. She has worked on developing identities for NGOs\, The Obama Foundation as well as companies and start-ups around the world\, and is passionate about art\, typography & research.\nSally Alassafen: An architect and a co-founder of the Syrian Design Archive. She is a huge fan of street photography\, Arabic typography\, and old shop signages.\nHala Alafsaa: Majored in architecture\, before pivoting from architecture towards a visual communication and graphic design career.
