DESCRIPTION:What is codicology and manuscript studies? Which subjects are most studied in the field? What are the latest developments in studying Islamic manuscript culture? What are the current resources and research literature?\nThese and many other questions about Islamic manuscript culture are at the heart of a lecture series organized jointly by the Library and the Center for Manuscript Studies at Fatih Sultan Mehmed Waqf University in Istanbul\, bringing together renowned international experts in Islamic codicology and manuscript studies to hold monthly talks and address scholars and the general public alike.\nIn our October lecture\, Dr. Mohamed Hasan Ismail\, Senior Researcher at the Writing and Scripts Research Center of Bibliotheca Alexandrina and Lecturer at the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts in Cairo\, will talk about "Paleography and Scripts in Arabic Manuscripts". The lecture will focus on the scripts found in manuscripts written by scribes or calligraphers\, away from the formal writings and works of fine calligraphy and others found in documents\, architecture\, and artifacts. It will provide an overview and a typology of the most used scripts and some tips and features to help distinguish each of the principal types researchers usually come across in manuscripts they study or consult.\nThe event will be conducted online via Zoom in Arabic\, with simultaneous interpretation provided in English\, and live-streamed via the Library’s YouTube channel.\nDate: 20 October 2022\nTime: 7:00 – 8:30 PM\nLanguage: Arabic with simultaneous interpretation provided in English \nTarget Audience: Researchers\, students and the general public\nSeats are limited\, please click the button below to register.
