2020.7.18 14:00

Online via Microsoft Teams Platform

This lecture by Mahmoud Zaki, the Manuscripts Librarian, will introduce patrons to the collection of manuscripts at the Library, highlighting its scope, status, digital platforms and services. Moreover, it will provide an overview of fundamental issues that are essential to understanding manuscripts and intellectual heritage, as well as the topics of the next lectures in the series.

It will discuss terms, concepts and disciplines related to manuscripts. An anatomy of the Islamic manuscript will be detailed, answering questions such as: What is intellectual heritage and what is a manuscript? What is codicology and what is textual criticism? How were manuscripts made?

This event is the second in a series of talks and sessions providing readings of rare historical works from our Heritage Library's collection of manuscripts. The series is a great opportunity to explore the rich collection and its masterworks, along with the Heritage Library's digital and virtual services.
