An edit-a-thon (sometimes written editathon) is an organized event where editors of online communities such as Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, and LocalWiki edit and improve a specific topic or type of content, typically including basic editing training for new editors. The Wikipedia marathons are becoming increasingly popular in the last couple of years especially because they are engaging young editors who are able to show and improve their editing skills. Through editing Wikipedia, editors are able to learn more about the topics that they are covering, from historical, cultural, geographical and scientific perspective. Having Wikithon in the Qatar National Library will enrich Qatari/ Arab content of the Wikipedia as editors will be Arabic speaking with backgrounds in fields like history, geography, social sciences. Also, editors are becoming aware of how to use resources especially in libraries. In this way libraries are again places that will create learning and creative fostering environment.
