The Heritage Library at Qatar National Library is hosting a special lecture by renowned Turkish travel writer Seymen Bozaslan, who has retraced the footsteps of 17th-century Ottoman explorer Evliya Çelebi.
Over several years, Bozaslan visited every location within the borders of Turkiye mentioned in Çelebi’s monumental travelogue, the Seyahatnâme, creating a unique dialogue between past and present. His recent book blends Çelebi’s historical accounts with contemporary observations and striking photography, inviting audiences to reflect on how landscapes, cultures, and communities evolve over time.
The lecture will also highlight a rare 4-meter-long manuscript map of the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers - attributed to Evliya Çelebi and preserved in the Heritage Library’s collection - which features as a fold-out facsimile in Bozaslan’s book. This event underscores the Library’s mission to preserve and bring renewed attention to the cultural heritage of the Islamic world.
The lecture will be presented and moderated by Dr. Huseyin Sen, an Information Services Librarian in the Heritage Library.
