Manuscript Studies Lecture Series | Manuscript Studies: Disciplines and Approaches

What is manuscript studies? Which subjects are most studied in this field? What are the latest developments in studying the Islamic manuscript culture? What are the current resources and research literature?

These and many other questions about Islamic manuscript culture are at the heart of a lecture series jointly organized by Qatar National Library and the Center for Manuscript Studies at Fatih Sultan Mehmed Waqf Universityn Istanbul. The monthly talks will feature renowned international experts in Islamic codicology and manuscript studies, and target scholars and the general public alike. 

The series will launch on 27 February 2022 with an opening speech by His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari, Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library, and Mohammed Fatih Kaya, lecturer at Fatih Sultan Mehmed Waqf University.

The first lecture in the series, “Manuscript Studies: Disciplines and Approaches,” will be delivered by Professor Idham Hanash, Professor of Manuscripts and Islamic Arts and Director of the Encyclopedia of the Arabic Manuscripts at the House of Manuscripts in Istanbul. 

The event will be conducted online via Zoom in Arabic and English, with simultaneous interpretation provided, and live-streamed via the Library’s YouTube Channel.
