Family archives provide a captivating glimpse into the social history that captures the journey of families and their rich cultural legacies. This seminar aims to illuminate the Al Jaber family collection, a trove of rare books and documents that mirrors the scientific and cultural development witnessed by the people of Qatar.

The Al Jaber family is associated with two of Qatar's most prominent judges, Sheikh Mohammed Al Jaber, and his son Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed Al Jaber. Their personal collections will be showcased, reflecting the possessions of Qatar's rulers throughout modern history, along with specific collections related to Qatar's dignitaries dating back around 120 years.

Aisha Al-Ansari, Head of Heritage Collections at QNL, will provide an overview highlighting the significance of enhancing our Arabic book collections through the inclusion of items from private collections. She will emphasize their pivotal role in preserving cultural and intellectual heritage, as well as in the dissemination of knowledge and culture.

Speakers:

  • Mohammed Hassan Al Jaber, a representative of the Al Jaber family, will speak about the history of the family's collection.
  • Omar Tihani, a historian, will talk about the personality of Sheikh Mohammed Al Jaber and his son, Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed Al Jaber.
